Mott Haven & Port Morris
Mott Haven and Port Morris form the southern tip of the Bronx, along the Harlem and East Rivers, with East 149th Street roughly to the north. East 138th Street is the main east-west street. The area mixes late-1800s brownstone rowhouses with large public housing: about 62% of homes are in elevator buildings, and NYCHA campuses include Mitchel and Patterson Houses. Three historic districts protect rowhouse blocks on Alexander Avenue, East 139th-140th Streets and East 136th Street. The 6 runs under East 138th Street with stops from Third Avenue-138th Street to Cypress Avenue, the 4 and 5 stop at 138th Street-Grand Concourse, and the 2, 4 and 5 stop at 149th Street on the Grand Concourse at the northwest corner. St. Mary's Park is the largest park in the south Bronx.
Mott Haven & Port Morris has 22,381 open HPD housing violations, 6,100 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 9,766 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 13th most open violations of 39 neighborhoods in Bronx.
