Westerleigh & Castleton Corners
Westerleigh and Castleton Corners sit in north-central Staten Island, south of Port Richmond, with Jewett Avenue as the dividing line between them and Forest Avenue along the northern edge of Westerleigh. Westerleigh grew from Prohibition Park, a 25-acre property bought by a temperance group in 1877, and many of its streets are named for Prohibition leaders and dry states, such as Neal Dow, Maine and Ohio. Housing is mostly residential, and the Todt Hill public housing development is in Castleton Corners, despite its name. There is no rail station; local buses include the S54, S57, S62, S66 and S93, and SIM3 and SIM34 express buses run to Manhattan. The Victory Boulevard and Manor Road intersection has long been the local commercial core.
Westerleigh & Castleton Corners has 1,527 open HPD housing violations, 132 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 300 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 11th most open violations of 17 neighborhoods in Staten Island.
