Port Richmond
Port Richmond is on Staten Island's North Shore, bounded by the Kill Van Kull to the north, Clove Road to the east, Forest Avenue to the south and the Bayonne Bridge to the west. It is a residential area where more than half of occupied homes are rented. Port Richmond Avenue, a long-established commercial strip, is now the center of Latino businesses on Staten Island. The North Shore Branch of the Staten Island Railway lost passenger service in 1953, so buses are the main transit, and the Castleton Bus Depot is in the neighborhood. City landmarks include the Reformed Church on Staten Island at 54 Port Richmond Avenue and the 121 Heberton Avenue House, a Rustic-style villa built about 1859–61 near Veterans Park.
Port Richmond has 8,631 open HPD housing violations, 1,059 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 1,743 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 3rd most open violations of 17 neighborhoods in Staten Island.
