New Springville, Willowbrook, Bulls Head & Travis
This Mid-Island area sits near the geographic center of Staten Island. It stayed largely rural until 1964, when the Verrazzano–Narrows Bridge opened, and changed completely after the Staten Island Mall opened in 1973 on the site of a little-used airport; the area is now the island's main retail center. There is no Staten Island Railway station, but the mall is a major bus hub. Willowbrook Park, part of the Greenbelt, has a five-acre lake, tennis courts, ballfields, an archery range and the accessible Carousel for All Children. The College of Staten Island campus occupies the former Willowbrook State School site. Decker Farm on Richmond Hill Road, run by Historic Richmond Town, is an 11-acre working farm and a city landmark.
