Tottenville & Charleston
Tottenville and Charleston sit at the southwestern tip of Staten Island, bordered by the Arthur Kill on the west, Raritan Bay on the east and the New York Bight to the south. Tottenville is the southernmost neighborhood in New York City and New York State and keeps many large 19th-century Victorian houses. Charleston mixes single-family homes and newer semi-detached enclaves with commercial and industrial land, including the Bricktown Centre shopping area. The Staten Island Railway ends at Tottenville station, with Arthur Kill station (opened 2017) just north; the S59, S74, S78 and S84 local buses and SIM2, SIM25 and SIM26 express buses serve the area. Open space includes Conference House Park, site of the 1776 peace conference, and the 265-acre Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve.
Tottenville & Charleston has 692 open HPD housing violations, 60 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 143 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 16th most open violations of 17 neighborhoods in Staten Island.
