Greenpoint
Greenpoint is Brooklyn's northernmost neighborhood. It sits between Newtown Creek, the East River and McCarren Park, with the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to the southeast. The core is 19th-century rowhouses and walk-up buildings. Part of it is the Greenpoint Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1983. Since the 2005 waterfront rezoning, towers of up to about 40 stories have gone up along the East River, including Greenpoint Landing. PLUTO counts about 25,900 homes, and roughly 59% are in buildings from before 1940. The G train stops at Greenpoint Avenue and Nassau Avenue, and NYC Ferry's East River route stops at India Street. McGolrick Park, with its landmarked 1910 shelter pavilion, and WNYC Transmitter Park are local green spaces.
Greenpoint has 18,082 open HPD housing violations, 2,527 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 3,826 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 26th most open violations of 53 neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
