Glendale

Glendale is a long, narrow neighborhood in west-central Queens, with Forest Park to the southeast and a belt of cemeteries around much of its edge. Most housing is older: PLUTO data puts the typical residential building's construction year in the 1920s, and nearly half of residential lots are two-family houses. Many homes use yellow Kreischer brick, and three districts in the western part were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983: 75th Avenue–61st Street, Central Avenue and Cooper Avenue Row. The Shops at Atlas Park opened at the eastern end in 2006 on the site of the old Atlas Terminal. No subway stops inside; the M at Fresh Pond Rd and the L at Halsey St are just beyond the edges.

Glendale has 7,197 open HPD housing violations, 945 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 1,566 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 27th most open violations of 60 neighborhoods in Queens.

Fact-checked October 12, 2026

Fixed: Forest Park lies southeast of the NTA (it borders on the east), not south; removed unsupported claim that Myrtle Avenue is the main shopping street. Verified in Wikipedia: Kreischer brick, three National Register historic districts listed 1983, Atlas Park opened April 2006 on the Atlas Terminal site. PLUTO 26v2: 48.1% of residential lots two-family; median year built 1925 (often estimated). Fresh Pond Rd (M) about 480 m and Halsey St (L) about 410 m outside. 80-00 Cooper Ave (Atlas Park) geocodes inside. Wikipedia's neighborhood lines differ from the NTA. Re-checked 2026-10-12: housing shares recomputed from PLUTO 26v2 (version confirmed via the API) by point-in-polygon against the 2020 NTA boundary (9nt8-h7nd); subway/LIRR stations re-placed from MTA station coordinates (39hk-dx4f, wxmd-5cpm); park names and acreage re-checked in NYC Parks Properties (enfh-gkve); history and boundary statements re-read in the cited Wikipedia articles; landmark addresses geocoded with NYC Planning GeoSearch.
