Bayside
Bayside is in northeastern Queens, near Little Neck Bay. The name first appears in a 1798 deed as "Bay Side." Most of its homes were built after World War II, helped by the Bayside station on the LIRR Port Washington Branch, an express stop with direct trains to Manhattan. The Clearview Expressway, Long Island Expressway and Cross Island Parkway serve the area; there is no subway. One- and two-family houses hold about 73% of its roughly 13,100 homes and fill about 94% of residential lots, and walk-up buildings hold about 19%. Crocheron Park (about 46 acres) and John Golden Park (17 acres) are the main parks.
Bayside has 1,941 open HPD housing violations, 196 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 481 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 51st most open violations of 60 neighborhoods in Queens.
