Questions people ask
- Can I buy a house without an agent?
- Often, yes. Many buyers deal with the owner directly and use a lawyer, a notary or an escrow agent for the contract and the money. What’s required depends on the country.
- What documents should I ask the seller for?
- Proof of ownership (a deed or title), the seller’s ID, the disclosures your country requires, recent tax or utility bills, and permits for any building work.
- How do I make an offer on a for-sale-by-owner home?
- Send it in Roofy with the price, deposit, conditions and an expiry date. The seller can accept, counter or decline, and both of you see every version.
- Who holds the deposit?
- Never Roofy. A lawyer, an escrow agent or a notary usually holds it, depending on local practice.
