Presiding over the striking core of historic Brooklyn Heights, 184 Joralemon Street is a landmarked architectural paragon and a quintessential symbol of an era, an era long gone and fondly remembered. Built in 1911, 184 Joralemon exhibits the range of architectural detail typical of the period's Beaux Art style, beautifully animated with touches of Colonial Revival. The opulent exterior provides a perfect contrast to the clean lines and contemporary look of the loft-like interiors designed by DiGiuseppe Architect. Organically connected to the world though a stunning lobby that pays homage to the area's historical visuals and natural ambient, each residence incorporates every feature a discerning dweller's wish-list would entail wonderfully flowing open floor plans, exceptional finishes, and the convenience of a personal washer/dryer, enhancedBosch Washer Dryer in the unit, Bosch Dishwasher, Viking Microwave, Bertazzoni five burner stove, cushion close cabinetry, elevator building. The story: Claudius Galenus, or Galen of Pergamon, was a prominent Greek physician, surgeon and philosopher in the second century Roman Empire. He and the better-known Hippocrates are considered to be the most important contributors to modern Western medicine. The use of the name "Galen" was quite popular during Victorian times, especially to name sanatoria and other medical retreat centers. The tall building was placed on a 25 foot wide Joralemon Street lot, right next door to the Packer Institute. He is not a familiar name in Brooklyn, but he was a busy man in Manhattan and the Bronx. He designed a wide range of buildings, including row houses, tenement buildings, churches, office buildings, hotels and theaters. His best known building is probably the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and he also designed Belasco's Stuyvesant Theater and the Selwyn Theater. His other buildings include the Hotel Gerard, First Baptist Church, both in Manhattan, and the Bertine Block of landmarked houses in the Bronx. That means the man was good. He also is the rare architect to have not one, but two buildings declared Individual and Interior Landmarks: the Apollo Theater and Belasco's Stuyvesant Theater. When the building was completed, in 1911. ** Please note the living room has no window. Both bedrooms have windows
