Brooklyn Community District 6
Brooklyn Community District 6 covers Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Red Hook and the Columbia Street waterfront in west Brooklyn. It runs from Upper New York Bay and the East River on the west to Prospect Park on the east, with Atlantic Avenue to the north and 15th Street and Hamilton Avenue along parts of its southern edge. Much of the housing is older low-rise buildings: in PLUTO about 38% of residential units are in walk-ups and about two-thirds are in buildings dated before 1940. The F, G, R, B and Q trains serve the district. Red Hook Recreation Area is here, and Prospect Park lines the eastern edge.
Brooklyn Community District 6 has 48,239 open HPD housing violations, 5,759 of them Class C (immediately hazardous). Inspectors issued 10,811 new violations here in the last 12 months. That's the 13th most open violations of 18 community districts in Brooklyn. Per apartment it ranks 31st of 59 citywide, at 752.2 open violations per 1,000 homes.
